How difficult is it to get into the Navy right now?
With the government planning on scaling back and sending some troops home, is it becoming more competitive?
I’m 24 and thinking about enlisting. Since I only have a HS diploma, I won’t be able to join as an officer. However, it will give me the opportunity to see the world and help my country.
How difficult is it to get a medical waiver for poor vision? I have a slight astigmatism, which has never been corrected. I’m mostly near-sighted with a power of -6.00 in both eyes. I’m not interested in becoming an aviator or doing anything that would require perfect vision. As far as the vision requirements go, is the Navy more lenient towards those who want to pursue a career in IT or supply chain?

Well it depends what job you are looking at. Options are very limited. As far as vision, your vision needs to be able to be corrected to 20/20. They test you for all that when you go to MEPS. You can check with your eye doctor. I wear glasses and I am also near sited. I just swore in about 2 weeks ago.

Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Thailand is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to medical equipment and supplies are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Thailand on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State).
